At United West we encourage and celebrate your child's curiosities and creativity through the use of carefully selected literacy activities. With this website it is our greatest hope that you will continue to inspire and develop your child's literacy development.
Included in our site are statistics about the importance of reading and writing activities. We have included links to our favorite literacy sites so that learning can be accessed even when your child is not at school. On our Reading at Home page you will find helpful hints and tips to foster literacy at home. We have included reading strategies to help you read with your child; including what to do when your readers comes across words they aren't familiar with yet. We hope this site encourages you to continue to learn and grow with your child as you encounter new and exciting information through the power of reading and writing. Red Storm Writers!
Every month one student from each class is recognized for their writing performance. Writing selections are chosen for numerous reason including, but not limited to, most creative, well written, and mastery of a skill taught.
